Clark

On the warm orange couch
I trace the spaces
where your fur doesn’t grow
each cicatrice a whisper
of an outrage before me

the blankness predating
gentle hands pouring apologies
into shining black

What did they do to you
I ask, but your tongue is dumb
and your soft brown eyes
want only to capture mine:
endless afternoon sun
