The Hummingbird Urn

Forever frozen on the wing
above cork Calla lilies:
white flowers fling perfume
in imagination only.

Your beak has never tasted
the nectar of your birthright;
songs unsung remain undone
within your shuttered throat.

Flying in an eternal night,
eyes ignorant of the sun,
guarding a body condensed
into your humble home.
