This is so fascinating and honestly touches on one of the most unnerving elements of Buddhism, the concept of no-self. I experienced no-self viscerally because of date-rape drugs and, while it was truly terrifying to have the “mask” ripped off of the concept of self, it also removed many of my deepest fears. I am no longer afraid to die, because there is no “me” to die, and having this assurance causes me to move through the world more confidently. When the worst thing that could happen to you – death – is no longer a threat, because the dissolution of self is no longer a danger, everything is possible.
Very well worded, Ms.
I did not learn this the way you did (and I wish you had not had to learn it that way!) but rather under the influence of LSD. It is amazing what a few chemicals can teach you.
There is no need to be scared of death.
